1998-99 Club Calendar

Youth and adults alike raise Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds and Labrador Retrievers to become guides for the blind.  We work with Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael, CA and Boring, OR.  Guide Dogs for the Blind give you the puppy you raise, and you with help from the club, teach the puppy good manners and how to go anywhere with confidence.  You have the puppy for a little over a year, then it is returned to the school to start its guide work.  There it learns all the skills needed to safely guide a blind person.  Only about 50% of the puppies become guides.   If your puppy passes or is selected for the breeding program, you can go to graduation and present your puppy.  The puppy may be "career changed" for a variety of reasons.  Then you have the option of keeping the puppy or Guide Dogs for the Blind will place it in a loving, caring home.

NOTES

There will be a guide dog puppy outing once a month.  You are all welcome to come along without your regular dog.

The business meeting will remain about the same: a meeting, work on record books, judging, dog bowl, breed, etc.

The other Thursdays, we will work on obedience and fitting and showing.   Education on Braille and blindness and vet science.  If you have an idea of something you want to learn, talk to Christy or Mary Ellen.

If you have other ideas you think would be fun, places to go, things to do ... speak up ... we are always looking for fun ideas.

This club has a parent policy, which will be reviewed by the leader in October each year and passed out at a meeting in November.   It was not written to offend anyone, but to help parents know what is expected of them.  Any members or parents who have questions or input regarding it are welcome to express them.  We as leaders will listen and take your comments under advisement.

We as leaders are not perfect, but try to have a club that functions as a unit, allowing members to politely express themselves and their ideas.  They are also encouraged to help plan to direction that the club wants to move in.
